Growing up in Padstow on the North Cornish coast, John has lived with the ocean for most of his life. John has honed his skills over many years of practice and keen observation to acquire the skill-set he now possesses and spends countless hours observing the landscape he has grown up in, making numerous scribblings and notes before retiring to the studio.
The light and spirit of a place is what interests John and he persistently strives to get what he experiences down on canvas, be it the wet sand, chaotic flotsam and jetsam or the brooding rocks. He paints primarily in acrylics with the inclusion of texture when appropriate.
His work, although inspired by the Cornish Coast, focuses on expression and impression gained while walking his Jack Russells in all weather along the beach or dunes near his home.
