Robert Kelsey was born in Glasgow in 1949 and studied fine art at Glasgow University before becoming an art teacher. In 1995 Robert became a full-time professional artist. 

Inspired and influenced by the Scottish Colourists, Peploe, Cadell, Fergusson and Hunter Kelsey paints the big skys and beaches of the Scottish Islands and other Coastal regions of the UK and Mediterranean. Kelsey uses a fairly limited palette and never paints an area that he hasn't visited. 

Kelsey was awarded the Diploma of Artistic Membership of The Paisley Art Institute in 1998. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2009 and received an Honorary Master's Degree from the University of the West of Scotland in2010.

His work is widely collected.
